Paid Academic Year Research Opportunity at NASA Headquarters - Washington, DC.
Undergraduate students will receive a $20,000 stipend and Graduate students will receive a $25,000 stipend.

The District of Columbia Space Grant Consortium is pleased to announce two paid research positions at The NASA Mars Exploration Program (MEP) office at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC. We are looking for Fall 2023 - Spring 2024 semester researchers who are driven team players with strong writing, communication, and organizational skills to help with NASA's ongoing integration efforts.
Researchers will have the opportunity to research and write policy pieces on various aspects of future Mars exploration. They will integrate collaborations with subject matter experts from across NASA, industry, and academia. They will help respond to the changing expectations of the ever dynamic world of Martian exploration. They also will develop outreach materials and arrange online, virtual school visits and talks. write articals for social media and other assorted NASA online websites and journals. NASA wants its researchers to learn as much as possible, as they not only contribute to NASA's work, but also help NASA develop the next steps in its journey to Mars.
Eligibility/Details
1. Students must be currently enrolled at a university in the District of Columbia.
2. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.2.
3. Students must have a major or minor in a STEM or Science/Space Policy/Communication related discipline.
4. Both Undergraduate and Graduate students are eligible to apply.
5. Internship Dates: October 2, 2023 to April 30, 2024 - 30 weeks minus 2 weeks for holidays/spring break = 28 weeks.
There will be flexibility to accommodate your academic schedule, but all work must be completed between October 2, 2023 and April 30, 2024. Students must work a total of 700 hours over the Spring 2023 and Fall 2024 semesters, averaging 25 hours each week for 28 weeks.
6. Undergraduate students will receive a $20,440 stipend and Graduate students will receive a $25,200 stipend (stipends will be paid in two installments).
7. Up to two students will be selected for this opportunity.
8. This special research opportunity is only available for DC university students through the NASA DC Space Grant Consortium.
9. Students must be a citizen of the United States.
