2018 NASTAR CENTER DC UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT ENGINEERING PROGRAM
"Giving undergraduate students insight into real-world engineering."
About
This hands-on DC engineering student training program is sponsored by the NASA District of Columbia Space Grant Consortium, and will take place at the National Aerospace Training and Research (NASTAR) Center, which is located outside of Philadelphia, PA. As part of the program, students will be issued a “Mission Kit” that includes a flight suit which they will use as they train on a centrifuge (experiencing a 3G suborbital launch, this is beyond awesome!), the same centrifuge used for training by NASA astronauts! They will receive program materials, a DVD of their flight experience, and information on how the program activities apply to engineering and aeronautics. Students will tour the state of the art engineering and assembly building. Each 8-hour day will be filled with exciting engineering and aeronautic related activities, including training in a high altitude pressure chamber, learning to fly in an aircraft simulator, building model rockets and launching them at an abandoned airport runway, and so much more!
This program includes two (2) flights in the ATFS-400 centrifuge, one (1) flight in the altitude chamber, one (1) flight in the General Aviation Trainer (GAT), and one (1) flight in the Integrated Physiology Trainer (IPT), for each participant.
